Beer isn't free...

Got lunch or dinner plans yet?

Well, if you don’t you should head down to Brick 29 in Nampa, today they are donating 100% of their profits to 3 local charities.

From the Brick 29 website:

MAY 20th——TURN THE TABLES
as we celebrate our second anniversary

All NET SALES will be donated on MAY 20th to celebrate our second anniversary in Nampa. We want to celebrate by TURNING THE TABLES and giving back to this great community. We have identified 3 charities. Each guest will be able to decide which charity will receive the proceeds from their meal. Come celebrate with us!

The 3 charities are:

SALVATION ARMY
TREASURE VALLEY LOVE INC.
NAMPA FIRST CHURCH FOOD BANK

We want to thank everyone in the Treasure Valley who has supported us, especially through these tough times. Thank you!

Great idea from one of the best restaurants in the Treasure Valley.

Canyon Bounty Farm and garden update

Saturday morning we went out to grab most of the starts for our garden, luckily for us one of the best greenhouses in the Valley is only about 2 miles away.

Canyon Bounty Farms has a very impressive array of tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, herbs and all kinds of peppers. Everything is organic, well taken care of and most importantly, local. Really an awesome place. If you’re in Canyon County and have a garden you really have to check them out.

You can find the full list of what they produce on their website.

Eli’s Italian Deli, again

I’m really starting to dig this place — really a great place to eat at in Downtown Nampa.

img_1239

On the recommendation of Clayton Borah I picked up the Ba-Da-Bing! this time around; plus,  it was a little chilly outside so I figured a warm lunch would do me some good before heading to the library. The Ba-Da-Bing! is turkey, ham, pastrami and provolone cheese, after it is sent through the oven it becomes a salty, gooey and crunchy concoction that is very enjoyable to eat. There isn’t a lot to this sandwich, but it is very good.

It did seem that the pizza slices are quite a bit larger from the last time I was there — I’d say $2.50 for a quarter a pie is a pretty good deal. The next time I’m down there I’ll definitely do the pizza (yeah, I said that last time too), sitting there in the deli case it looks really good.

Cost-wise I will say it is on the higher end for a lunch sandwich, for the Ba-Da-Bing!, a vegetarian sandwich and two bottled iced teas it was just under 20 bucks. With sides you’d be at 25-26 bucks, at that point I’d be asking myself why I’m not at Brick 29 enjoying a B.L.A.T and a good draft brew.

All in all, I do like this place, if they managed to stock a few good brews, or had refillable iced tea I could really see hanging out on their patio for some time; they defiantly have the best patio space in Downtown Nampa.

Clicky below for a snap of their sidewalk patio.

Eli’s Italian Deli

I’ve been meaning to check this place out for some time — today seemed like the perfect day to do so.

Sitting right on the corner of 2nd and 12th Ave in the heart of Downtown Nampa, I think I’ve found a new place that will require repeated visits

Filling in Downtown Nampa’s hole

What say you Boise?

img_0317

Of course, our hole is a little smaller, but it’ll now provide some much needed parking space.

Snow coming down in Nampa

Man, summer can’t get here quick enough.

Snow? March?! Grrr…

Chef Bristol finalist for James Beard Award

Awesome!

Huge news for the Treasure Valley, and more importantly for Nampa. Thinking recently, I can’t name another chef in the area who has done as much as Chef Dustin Bristol has in as little time.

Great Idaho wine and beers and amazing locally sourced grub.

Had to come down to pick up the Flying M Coffeegaragerock album.

Say You Say Me

Sunday breakfast with some friends at a Nampa institution.

img_0105

Not the healthiest grub on the planet, but always good.

Fiesta Guadalajara

img_0050-1

Good stuff. Not my favorite Mexi-style grub in the Nampa, but pretty good. The brews were great and the service was top notch. And yeah, they have both the lager and the amber Dos Equis on tap.

That being said, the camerones especiale was pretty rockin’. I’d get it again. And perhaps again, and maybe again after that.

Friday’s brew: Chimay Grande Réserve

An old oldie, but truly a goodie. There really isn’t much I can say about Chimay, you’ve either tried it or you haven’t. If you haven’t then you need to.

Picked this one up at Downtown Nampa’s Market Limone.

Flip-flops and fish tacos

It’s 40 degrees outside… that’s good enough for me.

Some Los Beto’s for lunch.

Some Krung Thai

This is the Sun Rise Roll from Krung Thai on Garrity Blvd.

Good stuff.

Paul’s Market on 11th Ave. N.

When I go to Paul’s Market most of the time it’s the one on 12th Ave. in Nampa, but lacking spinach this weekend I trekked up to the Paul’s on 11th Ave. N. Let me just say that it’s new source for my produce needs, in addition to Karcher Ranch Market and Wissel Farms on Lake Lowell and Middleton.

The produce at Paul’s was absolutely beautiful, what originally was a mission to grab a simple bag of spinach turned into an overflowing basket of fresh veggies. Everything was pretty much perfect, some of the best looking bell peppers, onions, tomatillos and jalapeños I’ve seen in a long time.

and they have chayotes, the first place I’ve seen around here that has these awesome squash-like veggies.

What’s your favorite place for fresh produce?

Taco truck lunch #4

From the truck by Fred Myer’s in Nampa.

Good stuff, but I still think the Garrity truck is the best.

Here is 3 and 1.
