Beer isn't free...

Wanna do something for me?

I don’t think I’ve ever asked you dear readers for anything, but I’m going to ask something small of ya now.

A big problem with blogs is that a lot of people still don’t read them. Ask 10 random people you know if they know what a blog even is, then to those who do know what a blog is, ask them if they read any. I bet the answer will surprise you — it’s never surprised me — for as big as the internet is, the blogosphere is still pretty small. You and I, we read blogs, for most of us, we read them everyday and are very familiar with their function and purpose — but most people aren’t. It’s easy for us to get into a bubble and forget about that world outside of our reading circle.

What am I asking of you? Simple, just spread the word. If you like what I do here and what other bloggers from around the state do with their blogs, please let some people know.

What would be awesome would be if you could email 1, 5 or 10 friends or family and just say something like “Hey, I read these blogs everyday, you might enjoy them.. check them out here…”. Not only would I truly appreciate it, but I’m sure the other Idaho bloggers would as well. Don’t want to send any emails out? What about posting a link to your favorite blogs on your Facebook account? Anything that you readers can do to help spread the word helps those of us who spend a ton of time writing this stuff that a lot of you seem to enjoy.

Heck, I might even buy ya a beer for it next time I see you.

On commenting… By my count, readers to commenters is about 200 to 1, at least for this site. Input and dialog are great things and they help make the blog a bit more interesting and a tad bit more fun to read. You don’t have to use your real name, no one has to know who you are unless you want them to. It’s not a requirement, but if you want an avatar and personality points you can sign up at IntenseDebate to comment here.

On feedback… I love hearing from readers, whether it’s good or bad. If you have any complaints or want to see something different, have a question, want me to look into something don’t be afraid to hit me up. I normally reply back to emails in a somewhat timely fashion depending on what I have going on.

Anything that you can do to help spread the word of blogs in Idaho would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

June is shaping up to be a good month

Found out last night that one of my favorite bands of all time, The Eels are releasing a new album. I also found out this morning that Wilco is releasing a new album in June.

In addition to that, the first weekend in June is the Mountain Brewers’ Beer Fest (pics from last year) in Idaho Falls, and there are also rumors floating around about a beer festival in Boise on Father’s Day weekend. This being in addition to the Old Boise Brewer’s Festival which is also rumored to return this year.

In addition to all of that, it’s June, so that means there will be plenty of camping and plenty of BBQ’ing in the woods.

Site updates

I’m playing with a new commenting system that is reeking some havoc with my Typepad service at the moment. Once it is up and working I’ll directly embed the code (instead of using the standalone widget) into the template so it’ll move a little bit faster.

I’ve also reverted back to my old template, I just never got comfortable with the new one. So now I’m trying to go through all of my advanced templates to clean up some of the code that I’ve had in there that I no longer need, that should also speed things up a bit.

I noticed that for some reason IE users have been seeing my election day banner not the current one ever since the election — at the moment they aren’t seeing any banner (at least I’m not when using IE), I’m trying to figure out why (ed. note; fixed it). Till then, I’d suggest you make the leap to Firefox or Chrome, you won’t be disappointed (why are you still using IE anyway?!).

Lack of posting…

It was a very hectic week around these parts last week and this week got off to a very sad start after a close and dear family member passed away early Monday morning.

I suspect I’ll be back to full steam by the start of next week.

In the mean time make sure you keep up with all of the Idahoans who are down in Denver attending the DNC.

Pistola ≠ penis

I’m sorry, but this made me laugh (check out the update).

The mental associations people make can tell you a lot about them.

Crapness

I busted off a sideview mirror on my car this morning pulling out of my garage. I hope my day improves.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

People on the ‘tubes

No matter whatever happens, or whatever is said on blogs, it’s always important to remember that there is a real person with real family and real friends behind everyone of these websites.

Please keep my friend Sara from F-Words in your thoughts and prayers.

Oy vey…

For x = (1,1), and y = (4,5), |xy| = √([1–4]2 + [1–5]2) = 5

Whereas x ~ Father, y ~ Mother and 5 = Hooray!.

Glad we got that problem solved.

Post-Thanksgiving Tidbits

Well, another dual family Thanksgiving in the books and now we’re on to Christmas season, my wife is insisting that the Christmas decorations/tree all go up today. Fun.. fun.

  • My day today is largely going to be takin’ up by making turkey stock, I managed to swipe the carcass from both of our families Thanksgivings, so today I’ve got a good 8 hours of making stock. You didn’t throw your turkey carcass away did you? If you need directions, here are some courtesy of Michael Ruhlman.
  • Updated: here are some tips from Jaden’s Steamy Kitchen on how to snag that turkey carcass for the next time you sit down to a turkey dinner; say, Christmas.

Cats

I love all 5 of mine, and they are all humorous in their own little ways — but Sgt. Podge made me chuckle.
