Treasure Valley unemployment numbers

Pretty slick feature from the NY Times.

Some local numbers: Canyon County is sitting at 8.9%, a 5% increase from last year. Ada County is sitting at 6.3% a 3.7% increase from last year. Gem County is at 9%, a one year increase of 4.9%.

More troubling is that there are several Northern Idaho counties that have unemployment rates over 10%, including Clearwater County which has a 13.6% unemployment rate.

And more than likely it will only get worse before it gets better.

1 shooting 1 murder in 1 week

I know it is cliché to say that Canyon County is a war zone, but I think we can start to dispel the myth that Canyon County is more violent than Ada County.

We should all pretty much be thankful that most of the violence as a whole in Idaho is not random, but between people who know each other. It’s nice to know that no matter if you’re walking in Downtown Boise, Nampa, Meridian or Caldwell on a weekend night the odds of you getting robbed are pretty slim.
