Idaho Politics:
I’ll be updating today as stories of the transportation deal come in.
- Idaho Gov. Otter, lawmakers come to terms on road funding. Looks like Otter caved, and now we know who is in control of Idaho’s GOP and thus, Idaho.
- Sounds like Sisyphus won the bet, what I and others thought would be a short session turned into the second longest in history of Idaho. In our defense; this should have been the one of the shortest sessions in history — it’s not like they really accomplished anything in the 116 days the Legislature will have been in session. You sir, have a beer comin’ your way.
- Legislature’s cost: ‘A schoolteacher a day’.
- Unda’ Adjourns: We’ll figure this out next year, OK?
- Kevin Richert: Otter and Twitter. To get why this is an issue, read this comment.
- KTVB did a pretty decent story on the Otter Twitter saga, however they left out that it’s not Otter using his Twitter account, it’s a lackey and they don’t converse (the whole point of Twitter), just meaningless tweets (I’ll link the KTVB story once it’s posted on the website).
- Mother Jones: Wanna Shoot a Wolf? Come to Idaho.
- Sen. Nicole LeFavour: Messing With Elections.
- Boarded up home belongs to multi-millionaire Senator Risch’s family.
Booze:
- Sunday booze sales approved in Burley.
- Brewing Dogfish Head Sah Tea, some sweet vids.
- I don’t think I’ve ever had this brew from Idaho’s Grand Teton Brewing Company.
- DRAFTmag: Beer Openers 101. Dear DRAFTmag, I paid for my subscription in January, you’ve yet to correct this oversight and I’ve yet to receive an issue. Think we could get on this? Thanks.
Grub:
- Mark Bittman: Freeze That Thought. We use our freezer a ton, make a lot of meals a head of time, things that are easy to pop into the microwave when we don’t have time to make a full meal.
- The Gluten Free Experiment.
- Serious Cheese: Goat Cheese 101. Love goat cheese — one of my favorite cheeses.
- Urbanspoon Boise, cool stuff, also for you iPhone-rs, they have an app.

Take a look as the most recent posting by Bryan Fischer - http://www.idahovaluesalliance.com/news.asp?id=1086
He claims that the one case of suspected H1N1 infections proves that regulating child care centers is a failure. Amazing how his mind leaps to this conclusion!
the flu doesn’t know the difference between a licensed day care or an unlicensed one, just as it can’t tell a bible thumping christian from a buddahist. Fisher is a twerp.
I’ve still got this post rattling around my head on the reasons for this long session. Basically for the reasons cited in John Miller’s very good article on Tuesday. Republicans are starved for leadership and since the electorate keeps sending them the state suffers through a predictable yet pointless bickering session essentially determining who has the biggest dick. While one couldn’t necessarily anticipate Otter’s veto tantrum, the division between Otter, the Senate and the House did not get resolved last summer and it won’t be resolved after this session. They’re still fighting for control of the party and Idaho loses while the kids are still allowed in the sandbox.
Its time to write that post if I can find the time this afternoon. As far as the beer. Anytime, highlander. You should give me a call next time you come over on a beer run. I can’t believe you’ve never had a beer from GTBC. Sweetgrass is one of my favorites. I go out of my way for it.
Oh, I’ve had a lot of Grand Teton brews, just never that Amber. I love their stuff, one of the best breweries in the state.
Look forward to your post.
I’ve seen that sign at Rich’s shack on the way to work and it made me laugh. Did find it odd that he had a big campaign sign out in front of a dilapidated house for the last couple elections.
Urban Spoon is pretty cool. Used it in Seattle and weren’t disappointed in the two places we went two that were in their top ten for the Capitol Hill area. Of course I don’t think the Seattle top ten’s had any chains included in the list.
