Today’s must read:
- Mark Warner, Jeffrey Jackson and Derick O’Neill: Commuter rail from Boise to Nampa is quite feasible.
If you happened to read the Statesman’s May 15 article, “Commuter rail between Boise and Nampa? Not now; maybe never,” please remember the old adage, “You can’t always trust what you read in the paper.”
The people who attended the Urban Land Institute’s conference on May 14 know that the headline should have read, “Commuter rail between Boise and Nampa? The time to start is now.”

The Treasure Valley:
- Canyon home assessments take nosedive. The assessor’s numbers show six areas where values fell more than 20 percent. I’m kinda curious to see what ours comes in at.
- Nathaniel Hoffman: Mommy, what’s a drag queen?
- KTVB: I Wonder: What are the rubber cords on roads for?
- Best news I heard this week: Josh Ritter to return for two-night run at Egyptian Theatre. If you are an Idahoan and haven’t seen Josh Ritter perform live, you are really missing out, he is an incredible songwriter and showman.
- Dr. Tom Stone says goodbye. Dr. Stone was my music teacher from 6th grade to 12th, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a teacher as dedicated to his job as Dr. Stone. I had him for concert band, jazz band and even one year for orchestra (strings weren’t this thing) when Nampa High was without a orchestra teacher — we took second at festival that year. When it came to jazz band Stone was unbeatable, wherever we went, we won. Incredible man.
- Idaho Statesman: What’s closed this weekend for Memorial Day?
- Idaho Press-Tribune: What’s happening this weekend?
- Timberline High teens bid au revoir to dream trip. The students spent thousands on a tour of France that won’t happen because the travel company went bankrupt.
- Debate continues over local road plans. More roundabout complaining.
- KBCI: Segways roll into Boise.
- Idaho Department of Labor director personally responds to Laid off Loser.
Idaho Politics:
- Will Brad Little be challenged by Raul Labrador? Interesting scenario — very interesting scenario.
- Jen Vollmer: Rural library district would be great benefit. It’s funny how things as needed as libraries have become fodder for the anti-tax folks. I can’t think of an area of the Valley that would better served by a library than this one being proposed.
- Fort Boise: That’s quite enough, Dick.
- Richert: Plastic but not fantastic: The credit card holder bailout.
Booze:
- Apparently the Treasure Valley drinks a lot of Pacifico beer (personally, not a fan of the minis).
- Serious Cocktails: Wine or Cocktail? This Summer, How About Both? Ok, I guess so, if you’re going to insist.
- Martini Mix-Off Madness in Downtown Boise.
- Come Party With Me: Memorial Day - Drinks.
- Camas Prairie Winery in Moscow becomes the first Idaho winery to go solar.
Grub:

Josh Ritter! Two nights! At the Egyptian! I have died and gone to heaven. Thanks for the head’s up, Chris.
Yeah, can’t wait, I wasn’t as thrilled about the last Knitting Factory show from Ritter. But I loved the Egyptian shows!
The second date will be an acoustic show with some members of the Boise Philharmonic which should be pretty awesome, that’s the one we’re going to shot for.
I just checked out his website and noticed that he is playing with some folks from the NY Philharmonic in Central Park for a free show on June 12. I guess that is a rehearsal for Boise.
I loved the band in the Oct 07 show, so I think we’ll be hitting both nights. Ironically and luckily, Tu and We are my husband’s two night’s off.
