Today’s must read:
- Bill Cope: Remember … We Won… And we’re still winning.
Idaho swine flu:
- Idaho gets first probable case of swine flu. Man, the media is eatin’ this up. If you watched KTVB yesterday you’d think the first “probable” case was a sure sign of the apocalypse. To be fair, KTRV led with a story about Cowgirls in Kuna not being able to sell booze this weekend. Sigh.
- ‘Nother story on the same lady.
- Boise Airport travelers taking swine flu precautions.
The Treasure Valley:
- The Boise hole gets a fail whale makeover.
- From waste to wares: Boise company makes soap and biodiesel.
- It’s sunny outside, that means there are still people overly concerned about Boobies.
- Mayor launches Curb it Boise trash/recycling program.
- Meridian parents rally in support of suspended teacher.
- Oy! Developed home lots hit 96-month supply in Treasure Valley. The outskirts, especially on the west side of Nampa are full of partially developed subdivisions. Word has it that having multiple subdivisions with only a few homeowners is about to/could put a major area builder out of business trying to carry the maintenance without homeowner’s dues.
- Children’s Day draws a crowd in Caldwell.
- W. Allen Freeman: Roundabouts aren’t best option in Nampa. Ya know, if you’re going to try to sound like an expert it’d be kinda nice to know if you are. The internets don’t seem to know who W. Allen Freeman is, so I’m guessing he’s not on the level of the traffic experts who are advocating roundabouts. I bet that op-ed is making some heads spin at Nampa City Hall this morning.
Idaho Politics:
- Michael Boss: It’s not the bean, it’s the scene. Really a great read about the Otter/Dawson Taylor fracas.
- Idaho House Declares Victory, Goes Home.
- IdaBlue: Does this seem odd to you?
- Idaho Values Coalition: Bryan’s Lofty Flock. I can’t wait to see the IVC’s take on yesterday’s IVA Daily Update, it was full of complete and utter fail. The gist: poor people who can’t afford representation shouldn’t have representation because they are poor. Get it?
- I watched this. The Idaho Senate yesterday was a train wreck.
- Apparently someone didn’t like the fun that someone else was having with the fake @ButchOtter account, so now it’s legit, meaning it won’t get used. The old one was pretty hilarious — yet another reason you should be on Twitter. Word is it involved the assistant AG and what some would call heavy handed tactics to find out who it was. Updated: Here is the story from Sharon Fisher writing at New West.
- Idaho Reps. On Matthew Shepard Act. Fear not weary Idaho Democrats, Rep. Minnick voted for it.
- Some photos from the Idaho Legislature’s 108th day.
- Crane lauded as 1st District Congress hopeful. Says he’s not in the race. Yet.
- North Idaho senator calls some Valley legislators ’selfish’ on road funding.
- Sit on Walt’s Couch. Walt Minnick will be in Meridian this afternoon talking to constituent, details at the link.
- And apparently, he’ll be in Caldwell on Saturday.
- Idaho Statesman: House gets into a big rush to do nothing.
Politics:
Booze:
- Orr: Celebrate Boise’s beer scene this month. Also includes a great roundup of all the events that are going on in Boise, makes me jealous.
- Indian Creek Winery gets some budbreaks.
- The World’s Most Expensive Beers. Would love to check out Samuel Adam’s Utopias someday.
- One has to wonder, what kind of beer does one of the best restaurants in the country serve?
Grub:
- Dennis was the name of the day at Flying Pie yesterday, Dennis Mansfield hit ‘em up.
- Pan-Fried Gnocchi with Morels and Fiddleheads.
- 14 Pizzas Worth Dying For.
- 10 ways to use stale bread.
- Hoisin soba noodles with black beans, and tofu:

Otter's got his veto stamp out again. News at 12.
You don't have to be jealous. I'm sure that 2C folks are welcome to come join in the beery goodness. I know it's sooo far away and they are only giving you one week notice to work it into you social schedule, but don't be jealous just come on over. I hope to hit up the stuff at Old Chicago, The Ram, and Sockeye. Not much time or $ commitment needed for those. The Deschutes dinner is also very tempting.
The Deschutes dinner sounds really awesome — apparently Mirror Mirror is supposed to be a really excellent beer. I'm was blessed with a wonderful wife, but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) she likes most of these beers as much as I do.
I really don't like drinking that much and driving back to Nampa. I wouldn't mind heading over for the Sockeye dinner on the 16th when we can prolly just stay in Boise.
“I really don't like drinking that much and driving back to Nampa.” as I recall its your turn.
Oh, it is and I'll come over for that, but then it's easier to moderate, but a beer dinner with really good beer? Eh, notsomuch, I've pushed my luck over the course of the years and I'm just not willing to risk it anymore.
I'll just have to stick to the weekend festivities, and I'm ok with that.
Hate to say it, but he's going to lose. The House won't increase taxes this year or next, they'll slip in things here and there, but they won't raise any straight forward taxes, the only ones the villagers seem to care about.
There is also this thing they call drinking in moderation, you know have a beer or two. Of course that is a little difficult at a 5 course beer dinner. I will probably be doing the moderate drinking at The Ram and Old Chicago though, if I can make it. Unfortunately I was reminded that we're actually heading over to 2C for awhile on the 16th and we have something later that night as well. Guess I'll be checking out the Hopnoxious another time.
Yeah, that's exactly the problem with the beer dinners, lots of really good beer — kinda pointless to have only one or two.
Well, that'll put a damper on the Sockeye dinner then :(.
“There is also this thing they call drinking in moderation”–that's just crazy talk.
Crazy talk, I understand. Once I start I'm there for the night (so weekends usually work best for me, too). Since two beers gets me wasted, I may as well go for ten. Now do you understand why I don't drink on a work night? Not smart enough to know when to quit.
So it's a good thing that I'll miss the beery goodness this next time around. Have fun, enjoy! Tell us all about it…
Found this per Mr. W. Allen Freeman…… W = Wm?

At the social event after my beloved grandmother's funeral today, when one of my (very) distant relatives was ranting about that Muslim Barack Obama and how we was leading us right into Bin Laden's plot (I'm NOT kidding), I quoted Bill Cope. Granted, she didn't understand what I meant, but I guess that goes without saying.
thanks, Chris
