The Treasure Valley:
- No Boise State Broncos get drafted to the NFL. Ian Johnson and Vinny Perretta agree to the Vikings. Wide receivers Jeremy Childs went to San Diego Chargers and Julian Hawkins went to the Dallas Cowboys.
- Location, Location, Location: Williamson Wine at Sunny Slope. NewWest.Net’s Wine Guys visited Williamson Orchards and Vineyards in Canyon County and report in.
- A trucker says it is so, so it must be so, Idaho’s roads don’t suck and need any repair. How’s that for an anecdote turning into a piece of news?
Idaho Politics:
- Bill Sali mulls a run at his old office. Please God say it’s true — next year’s 1st CD GOP primary is shaping up to be the bestest evar.
- The ‘09 Legislature: an object lesson in GOP failure.
- Reps. Denny, Moyle, Bedke and Roberts: Let’s not make road funds a test of political wills.
- Idaho Statesman: Detouring taxes to roads is a bad idea. Furthering the belief that Idaho Republicans don’t believe in raising taxes, just in shifting them on current tax payers and forcing the burden of larger tax increases on future generations. How’s that for political and personal courage?
- Idaho Press-Tribune: New officeholders perform well.
- Idaho Values Coalition: The Misguided Lance of Bryan Fischer. The IVC blog is really turning out to be a great one — that doesn’t happen often in the blogosphere.
- Butch Otter Issues Executive Order - “No One Goes To Dawson’s Coffee!!” Interesting read. Support your local coffee shops, please. Updated: I heard from someone at the Capital that Gov. Otter has said nothing about not drinking coffee at Dawson Taylor. It was also brought to my attention that some people just don’t like Dawson Taylor, and I’ll give ‘em that. Personally, I only really dig Flying M, but that’s just how I roll. Yo.
Politics:
- Shane Murphy, Freed Pirate Hostage, Slams “Disgusting” Rush Limbaugh.
- Go figure, there was some crazy amongst the tea baggers.
- Remember all that pork the GOP demanded taken out of the stimulus bill? Turns out one of those items was prevention for a mass flu epidemic. Oops.
Booze:
- Boise’s Brewtopian Beer Market has relaunched their website site, check it out for some great beers, delivered.
- Ever been handed a beer glass that wasn’t filled all the way to top? Of course. Never get shorted on your pint again.
- History Lesson: The Story of Beer.
- I started reading Michael Jackson’s “Beer Companion” this past weekend — it is a pretty fascinating book. It’s always cool when you think you know a lot about something to be reminded that you don’t.
- Oh, I should note on Friday we micro-sessioned a Russian River Damnation, early ‘08 Stone Old Guardian and compared Deschutes’ Cinder Cone bottle vs. keg — keg won. All were pretty outstanding beers.
Grub:
- Boise’s Boobie’s Burgers launched their website, I still haven’t made it there but I haven’t heard good things.
- Green Pizza Boxes, this is a pretty excellent idea, I can see it being especially handy in college towns.
- 10 things you might not know about eggs.
- Sweet Potatao and Kale Quesedillas.
- Another Pint Please! Grilled Porterhouse with grilled lobster tail and curry butter! and The crazy things men do… (homebrewing and pork stomach, enough said!).
- Secret (Natural) Ingredient: Surprising New Uses for Olive Oil, uh, kinda grub related, check it out.
- 10 Ways Gardening Can Help You Through a Recession.
- Boise Foodie Guild: San Francisco Sourdough French Bread.

Chris, I would like to point out the Vandals had one of their players drafted… Woot!
That is very true.
Ian not getting drafted didn't really surprise me at all, especially with his lack of production last season. Childs should have stayed another year, he probably would have gotten drafted.
Zoiks, earthquake in Mexico City. Things are starting to look biblical.
lol, I saw that this morning. How long will it take for people to jump on that meme?
Not long. Its a catholic country.

Does this surprise you?
“conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism.”

One fun thing about living 'round these parts is how sanctimonious some folks can be about an appropriately placed F Bomb, or - as was the case here - another word for Scat. There are times when decorum not only justifies it; but demands it.
It is not necessarily a 911 event! Au contraire confrere.
Calling Bull Hooey when Bull Hooey is what's being peddled is nothing short of stand up and commendable.
I humbly suggest that Mr Ledgard's NPR interview [ http://citydesk.boiseweekly.com/2009/04/uncle-b... ] regarding the subject is worth your 7+ minutes.
Dawson's Coffee is not only a local roaster and purveyor of fine coffee; but of good will, cheer and superlative customer service.
lol. Nice, and no.
What I find amusing is that this is just another great case of a blogger (you) breaking a story and the local media quickly jumps on the bandwagon once they realize it'll get some clicky-play, and of course, the only outlet to acknowledge that it came from a blogger was the best media outlet, the Boise Weekly.
For all the complaining and griping journalists have about bloggers they sure love to use us as a springboard for a story.
This is retarded. I went to the Buy Idaho site and they say they want to promote Idaho services and products to be your first choice. If you regard going to get your coffee fix a service then it seems to me both places you would be buying Idaho. If you consider it a product, then you aren't buying Idaho from either business because coffee isn't grown in Idaho. This is a case of everyone making a big deal about nothing and The Dawson Taylor owner being butt-hurt about not getting as much business as he would like.
Lets just stick to the reality that locals can't always provide the service and products consumers prefer.
Hmm, I'm torn on this.
Yeah, a consumer shouldn't have to buy local, they are certainly free to shop anywhere they please, the Governor? That's a different story, he's the head honcho of the state, the new spokesman for Buy Idaho, even if he doesn't prefer it, he should buck up and buy a more local product.
Sometimes there are pitfalls to being the leader, you do things you don't want to, and for Otter it seems to be buying coffee he doesn't enjoy.
Dave actually knows Thomas Hammer from his days in Seattle, and they view each other as friendly competition.
His confrontation with Butch had nothing to do with Mr Hammer or his shop(s), and everything to do with calling BS on a politician who preaches one thing to the masses and does another.
