Canyon Bounty Farm and garden update

Saturday morning we went out to grab most of the starts for our garden, luckily for us one of the best greenhouses in the Valley is only about 2 miles away.

Canyon Bounty Farms has a very impressive array of tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, herbs and all kinds of peppers. Everything is organic, well taken care of and most importantly, local. Really an awesome place. If you’re in Canyon County and have a garden you really have to check them out.

You can find the full list of what they produce on their website.

The picture above is the main greenhouse where a lot of the tomatoes are housed in addition to the eggplants and the very impressive selection of peppers.

Here is the herb section

Here is the main area where they keep all the one gallon tomatoes, great selection of greens and onions.

This is what we ended up getting on our first visit;

Vegetables/fruit: Chard Mix, Mideast Prolific Cucumber, Casper White Eggplant, Machiaw Eggplant, Orient Express Eggplant, Kale Mix, Leeks, Heirloom Lettuce Mix, Honey Orange Melon, Cayenne Chile Pepper, Limon Chile Pepper, Serrano Chile Pepper, Early Sunsation Pepper, Golden Cal Wonder Pepper, New Ace Bell Pepper, Costata Romanesca, Sunburst Patty Pan, Pasta Spaghetti Squash and a packet of Edamamae seeds.

Herbs: Basil, Basil mix (lemon, lime, cinnamon, sweet, Thai, purple), Epazote, Mint, Oregano, Sage, German Thyme.

Tomatoes: Legend, Black Cherry, Sungold, Yellow Pear, Ropreco, Green Zebra and Beefsteak.

All told that came up to 84 bucks, which isn’t bad for what we got. Right now most of the plants will be spending their days on the patio in the sun, but the evenings in the garage. Around Mother’s Day we should get everything into the ground and start enjoying fresh garden veggies as the summer progresses.

I already have jalapeƱo, habanero, Anaheim and Ancho peppers in the ground in addition to beets, radishes, snow peas, Italian Parsley and cilantro — so it’s looking like we should have a nice bounty of crops if I can keep them all alive.

I also got a composter from reader Ericn1300 today for 40 bucks (thanks again!), so all told the garden-from-scratch has cost about 220 bucks. I bet I’ll be at 250 by the time I’m all said and done which isn’t bad for starting a garden, and what it should yield over the course of the summer.

I’d expect the yearly cost to be about 100-120 for new seeds and starts each year, which is probably what we spend a every 5 weeks or so in veggies and herbs.

    Thanks for the heads up on this place! We went out Saturday afternoon and loaded up a big box of starts to add the ones we already have going. Great little nursery. We'll definitely go back out there.

  • No problem, I'm glad you liked it. It's a pretty awesome place, and Beth is a great lady with an incredible amount of gardening knowledge.
