Beer isn't free...

Friday’s brew: Widmer Brother’s Drifter Pale Ale

When I found out that Widmer Brother’s were release their ‘07 Brewmaster’s Release as a full fledged member of the Widmer Brother’s family of beers I was pretty ecstatic (although I’m still looking to make sure they are exactly the same beers, the prost on the cap leads me to believe it’s the same).

Balance-wise, this beer is just sublime; tiny bit of hops, a little malt and palette pleasing amount of fruity acid. It really isn’t what you’d expect when popping a Pale Ale open, much more mellow than other American style Pale Ales. It’s going to be a great summertime beer for me, if I could find it in Nampa it’d probably get picked up quite a few times this summer. This beer has “camping”  and “sittin’ on the patio in the shade” written all over it.

I’d wager a guess that if you were to toss an orange slice into this beer you’d be in summertime beer heaven.

The prost in the cap: To the One that DIDN’T get away! …indeed.

Sounds like one I need to track down this weekend. Both Albertsons and Fred Meyer are pretty good at stocking Widmer, so I would think it will show up within the next week or so.

  • Just bought some at Pauls on 12th last night. Not bad, not great, definitely makes me want summer to be here though.

  • Awesome, good to know we can get it in Nampa. This one came to me from El Monty, he picked it up at the Co-op. I agree, while it isn't "great", when compared to some beers, it's going to be an awesome summer beer.

  • I think you'd like this one.

You can also pick up a sixer at Kicks 66, the Texaco station next to McDonalds on Garrity Blvd.

Not bad. I like Mighty Arrow better but in all a good beer.

It does seem oddly hard to find. So far I'm still only seeing it at the Co-op. As you said, because it's Widmer I would expect to see it in lot more locations soon. Though it has been out for at least a month so I'm not sure what the delay is.

You can get it on tap in a few places in Boise. Piper Pub comes to mind because you can order it up in a 32oz serving. Combine that with their outdoor seating, in the warmer months, and enjoy.

Yeah, I'm not seeing this anywhere common so far. I've got Mighty Arrow on tap now, so my motivation is officially gone. . . ;)

  • You have Mighty Arrow on tap and you haven't invited me over?! Wha?! Your patio will do just fine to give the Arrow its justice.
