Beer isn't free...

Thursday morning coffee

Thursday. Busy day.

  • RE: Bryan Fischer — “I fail to understand how an individual can be so passionate to the point of fanaticism about children when they are not yet born and at the same time be so laissez faire about children who made it out of the womb”. Indeed.
  • Don’t go here, you won’t ever come back. I don’t really like video games, but that link is pretty damn cool. You’re welcome.
  • “Everyone with eyes, ears, and a brain not ruined by drugs and Twinkies thought Bobby Jindal bombed last night. Then there’s Rush Limbaugh.” Nice.
  • For any concerned, coffee (tea actually) with Wayne yesterday went just fine. We had a nice discussion mainly about political philosophy as a whole, rather than specific policy matters.
  • Some breakfast to go with that coffee. Vegan banana pancakes w/ Tapatio and pure maple syrup. It’s really amazing the things you can make vegan that are really, really good.

  • I'm crushed. You'll have tea with Hoffman…(sniff)

Did ya have to shower afterwards?

    • We'll meet up some time Sis, I'm anxious to meet you. It's just that whole you live in Boise thingy — hard to get away sometimes. No, Hoffman was pretty affable, we had a good discussion.

      • Great! I love disappointing people.

(Giggle)–I don't go to Nampa either without great compulsion. But I'd go there before I'd go to the mall. Kudos to you for posting several reasons for going on past it.

Thats pretty cool about Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Been back to Bar Gernika recently and it's a pretty sweet little place, their fries rock.

Tapatio on banana pancakes, sorry I mean vegan banana pancakes. Really? Do you just dump a little in your coffee every morning too? Pretty soon you'll just be shooting the stuff straight up.

    • I don't want to inject it was much as I'd rather just put it in a shot glass and shoot it. I want to get down to Bar Gernika next time we are over in the Big City, the Boise Twitters were all a'twitter about it yesterday, sounds like it's really good. And good fries and good beer? Can you go wrong?

  • Monty

Yeah that's more what I was getting at, using a shot glass. You can just start lining those up in the morning and change the name of this part of the blog to Morning Hot Sauce.

We'll have to to Gernika sometime. It is pretty fun and tasty, just get's lost in the shuffle sometimes. Even with all the restaurant closings we still have a pretty good supply of tasty pub food joints. Do I go to Bittercreek, maybe Falcon Tavern, but there's also Gernika, and what about Sockeye or Highlands Hollow?

    • Yeah, musta be nice to have all the options. If I was located as close to Sockeye (and Flying Pie), man.. oh man. There are times that I wish we lived in Boise.

      • Monty

Yep, it can be nice, maybe a little rough on the pocketbook at times though. Sockeye certainly gets even more appealing once the patio opens up and Flying Pie well that just leads to a whole other set of difficult choices.

Boise is still pretty flush with tasty pizza options. My near chronic addiction to the beer and pizza combo of The Front Door is pretty hard to overcome, though I still love Flying Pie, and our recent introduction to the goodness that is Casanova Pizzeria confuses things even more, plus let’s not forget Guido's big tasty slices. Flatbread and Proto's also have their strong points and some nice patios to boot.

You still have one of the best, if not the best, remaining higher end joints in Brick 29 though. If Sisyphus is looking for a compelling reason to head west, that might be it. Aside from seeing family and friends that would be my reason for heading towards Nampa.

  • I believe they are going to the Orchard House out in Marsing as well.

Mmm! I loves me some Allen Marsh wackiness! That guy . . . his letters crack me up. I didn't think it was possible to be wrong about so many different things. I'd love to meet him, but I think it would ruin my perception of him: an angry white man full of impotent rage, fueled by things he has no control over, babbling the talking points of people with power but who couldn't give a crap about him personally. Sad.

  • I love seeing Marsh in the paper, always good for a laugh.

  • Patios are one thing that I love about Boise joints.

There aren't very many in Nampa, Firehouse (meh), Jalapeño's has a good one, but you're right on the BLVD, I like the Market's patio a lot, but that about all that Nampa has. If you have good brews and a nice patio I can settle with decent grub. Just something about imbibing outside during the summer.

I'm w/ ya on the Brick, turning into a gem for not only Nampa, but the whole Valley.
