Wizzow.

I’ll have more on this once I get a chance to digest it all.

About time. Maybe now we will see a trend of better teachers. Next, legislature just needs to continue this great step with state employees…

There is no way this will result in better teachers. If anything, this will result in a mass exodus of the quality teachers Idaho has.

Yeah I guess I also fail to see a strong connection between this an better teachers. I guess you would also support the idea that Idaho being a right-to-work state makes us a state full of better employees? Though I also fail to see a strong correlation there either.

I would say that it is certainly possible that tenure for teachers, in some cases, goes too far. I know that I certainly grew up with a couple teachers here in Idaho that had very little business being in a classroom, but probably managed to hang on because tenure. I would also say that they were in the minority when compared to the high quality teachers I had while growing up.

Beyond all that though, this simply smacks of the typical BS that Republicans in this state try to feed us on a regular basis. How do you, with a straight face, introduce a bill like this and say you are doing it to protect jobs? Thats like introducing legislation that shifts the tax burden from one group of people to the other and then telling everyone that it was a tax cut. Wait… I guess they were able to do that one with a straight face too.

Also no funding for field trips, ever, is just plain cold hearted and shortsighted.

  • Your headline says it all, Chris.
People need to raise holy hell about this. The enemies of public education are using this real but temporary crisis to make permanent changes to harm our schools and our economy. Luna has a suggestion box at the DoE website. People need to flood it with complaints. Click my name. Don't let them get away with this.

Ridiculous. Teachers should get mandated pay raises while EVERYONE else suffers due to this crisis? That is a joke and the teachers union looks totally out of touch here. We all want good teachers, but we want good cops, good firemen, good nurses and good everything else.

Julie, done did (for the 2nd time).

To me, this is about the fact that the legislature is being given way too much power to make changes that in some (limited) minds means that the best thing for kids is no field trips, no music or art to round out their education and the ability to turn all of our schools into charter schools.

Gads, the next thing they'll be doing is proposing school vouchers. What the hell is wrong with these guys? I suddenly feel like I'm back in Utah. Which is not good.
