This time City Grill.
City Grill closes in Downtown Boise
City Grill, 199 N. 8th St., became another casualty of the faltering economy and the 11th Downtown restaurant to close in the past two years.
City Grill featured a raw bar, peel-and-eat shrimp, baked oysters Rockefeller and steamed Dungeness crab. It was featured in the November issue of Food and Wine magazine.

I can’t say much for City Grill because I never ate there, but I had heard good things about it. The owners of City Grill, Christine Reid and Mitchell Thompson also own Pair which is right down the street. I’ve been (ed. note; been, not beer Statesman readers) there a couple times and really dig it, they’ve got some pretty kick ass cocktails there.
Let’s hope that at least Pair sticks around.
On a side note – one thing I’ve always found amusing about the comment section on the Idaho Statesman’s website is whenever a restaurant closes down it is because it simply didn’t measure up to the impeccable palates of the commenters. Milky Way, Mortimer’s, Andrae’s… they were just weren’t up to par for the palates of Idaho’s Applebee’s loving foodies.

“Milky Way, Mortimer’s, Andrae’s… they were just weren’t up to par for the palates of Idaho’s Applebee’s loving foodies.”–careful my friend or Bubbles will come over and accuse you of being elitist.
I miss Milky Way.
That hurts, I had been meaning to go there since it opened.
In other food news, I haven’t seen it reported anywhere but it really looks like the Idaho Steakhouse in Eagle has folded. It was dark on Sunday evening and there’s a Century 21 sign out front. How much could they have dumped into that place — $1-2 million at least?
Really glad I went to Asiago’s tonight. We have to keep the local places open. Applebee’s has its place, but really…
Nope, I’m the kinder, gentler Bubblehead for the next few months. And it’s killing me, because I really want to mock and belittle Clayton Cramer and his ilk for their irrational belief in this “Obama Birth Certificate fraud” conspiracy theory. If I weren’t so kind and gentle, I’d say something like, “Hey, Clayton, do you really think that people like Hillary Clinton and Karl Rove would have given it a pass if it had even a shred of validity? Don’t you realize that it’s a win-win for Obama not to release his birth certificate because it relegates his potential opponents to the level of 9/11 Truthers for as long as they keep it alive?”
But I’m being nicer now, so I’m not posting stuff like that.
Aw now I feel like I was pickin on ya, Bubbles. And don’t worry we’ll fill in for you. That decision by the Supreme Court on whether to hear that appeal will be accomplished today. I suspect it will be summarily denied. Otherwise the Supreme Court will bring great pain down upon itself. Sending good thoughts your way.
I walked by Old Spaghetti Factory last night - it was empty, on First Thursday no less. Hmmm…guess not many people want old spaghetti after all. Especially if it’s made in a factory.
