Man, was this beer good.
This was actually the first time I have ever had Stone’s Double Bastard Ale, one of my favorite beers is their “Oaked” Arrogant Bastard and I kinda figured that the Double would just be a bit hoppier than its namesake. The Double Bastard is almost a totally different beer, much more malty and balanced than Arrogant Bastard — I was pretty blown away by how awesome this 2007 Double Bastard was.
Now I just need to find a 2008 release of Double Bastard in a 3L bottle and I’d be a happy camper.
We also had some of Redhook’s Winter Hook, some Samuel Smith Winter Welcome and finished off my last two bottles of the very port-like 2006 Samichlaus Bier.
