Exxon posts record $11.68 billion profit
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Exxon Mobil once again reported the largest quarterly profit in U.S. history Thursday, posting net income of $11.68 billion on revenue of $138 billion in the second quarter.
That profit works out to $1,485.55 a second.
That barely beat the previous corporate record of $11.66 billion, also set by Exxon in the fourth quarter of 2007.
What has Bill Sali done to help out Idahoans?
Well, for starters he’s collected over $21,000 $50,000 in campaign contributions from oil company PACs and hosted $1,000 a plate fundraisers with oil lobbyists. So while regular Idahoans aren’t giving any money to Congressman Sali, he’s getting his fair share from big oil.
From a Minnick press release at 43rd State Blues:
The Minnick for Congress campaign issued a strong rebuke to Bill Sali
for his vote today against bipartisan legislation aimed at lowering gas
prices by preventing unscrupulous oil companies from gouging drivers.[...]
"Sali votes to give tax breaks to Big Oil. He votes to help
subsidize their record profits. And today he votes to protect Big Oil
from angry consumers who are frustrated by price gouging," said Adam
Harris, the campaign manager for Walt Minnick. Minnick is running
against Sali in Idaho’s First Congressional District."In 2002, while in the Idaho Legislature, Sali voted against a
price-gouging bill. But as recently as Saturday, he said at a press
conference that our country needs ‘bipartisan solutions’ to help lower
prices at the pump," Harris said. "Sali showed today that the only
thing he’s learned in Washington is how to use political spin on Idaho
voters."

Au contraire mon frer. No worse than my French. I expect that one to go viral. Great snark
Can we title it “Who’s your daddy?”
This is absurd. Yes, the oil companies have achieved record profits, but who benefits from that? It would be nice if it was mentioned that 50% of American households who have investments in stocks and mutual funds are directly benefited by this. If we are to prevent oil companies from realizing profits, why stop there? We might as well start taxing Microsoft for windfall profits, then move on to Apple and other great American industries. Get real, this is a capitalist country and criticizing a company for making money is akin to condemning a baseball team for prolonging a winning streak.
Hey, bro - it’s “frere.”
Hey William, why do they need royalty waivers on oil owned by Americans? Why do they need off shore drilling rights when they have 63 million acres of unexploited leases? How come they haven’t built a refinery in thirty years? How has deregulation of oil speculation figured into these profits? Do you remember Enron and California? How come that instead of embracing alternative energy sources they are advocating congress to increase drilling opportunity? Why do they plow less than one percent in to alternative sources? They spend more on advertising. Why have they given Mccain $800,000 since he flip flopped on offshore drilling?
Catch a clue buddy. Its a political issue because they made it one. You can continue to take it or you can do something about it.
Nice, the Sali camp surrogates are on the ‘tubes now.
Hey William, why are the oil companies given massive tax breaks over everyone else when it is the only unregulated utility in America?
