I’m sorry, but this made me laugh (check out the update).

I think anyone will make an association that’s either positive or negative depending on their viewpoint of the activity:
A) Open carry is like gay public sex - both are offensive and the people doing it just want others to see them and get used to it.
B) Open carry is like having a huge personal bodyguard or attack dog next to you. - nobody is gonna try to hurt you with it by your side.
It’s all relative to a person’s belief.
Yeah, the public gay sex comparison to open carry is pretty wacky. I don’t know what the surveys for public gay sex are, but I’ve seen some public online polls for open carry, and the majority of people are OK with it.
How about public gay sex open carry? would that kill two causes with one thrust?
…Oh…my mind’s eye has gone blind with that one…

Oh, so now all those gay people having sex in public do it because they want others to “get used to it?” And you know this because …?
It’s offensive for anyone to have sex in public. It’s also offensive for anyone to strap on a gun and wear it to the zoo, unless such person is in law enforcement. Besides the sophomoric comparisons between guns and penises, that’s about all those two topics have in common.
This is completely f***ing ridiculous.

I think you mis-read the intent of my comment. The “get used to it” statement was a paraphrase of the claytoncramer blog (linked at the beginning of this blog entry). That blogger made the initial comparison. I was only pointing out that comparisons are greatly influenced by the person’s opinion as to whether something is good or bad.
Do you really find it offensive for law-abiding people to openly wear guns in public, and you think only law enforcement should carry guns openly like that?
Why?
There must be some reason behind this belief of yours. Is it specific to Open Carry, or do you feel no law-abiding citizen should be carrying a gun (concealed or open)?
Is it just because they’re at the zoo, or do you frown on open carry anywhere?
It would be nice to find some common ground to start from to understand why you find Open Carry at the zoo by citizens so offensive.

If I misread your “get used to it” statement, I apologize. I’m standing by my statement about guns in the zoo and have no interest or need to explain it further.
